About Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki , historically also known as Salonika, is the capital of Northern Greece and the second largest city in the country. It is also the second most important town after Athens.
The city was founded around 315 BC by the Macedon King Cassander, who named it after his beloved wife Thessalonike, sister of Alexander the Great. She was daughter of Philip II and princess of Macedon.
Thessaloniki has many ancient monuments revealing its past glories, as well as its present flourishing state.
