Walk in the center of Niš, the largest city of Southern Serbia and third- largest city in the country. It is one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and Europe, and has from ancient times been considered a gateway between the East and the West.

Trip to:

  • The Skull Tower (Ćele Kula) is a monument of 19th century Serbian rebels. It is situated on the old Constantinople Road leading to Sofia. The monument was built using the skulls of 900 Serbs killed by Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II during the Battle of Čegar( 1809). The battle was ended by the Serbian commander Stevan Sinđelić, who sacrificially fired at his gunpowder depot in order to avoid surrendering to the Turks, killing himself, the rest of his men, and the advancing Turks.
  • The square of Liberty where is situated the Monument to the Liberators of the city, built in 1936.
  • Church of Niš, built in 1872 (before the liberation of Nis) by Master Andree Damjanovic, and visit the city- hall.
  • National Theatre and the Palace “Banovina”, built in 1886 as administrative building and police station, today headquarters of University of Niš.
  • The Niš Fortress - an extant fortification of Turkish origin, dating from 18th century. It is well-known as one of the most significant and best preserved monuments in the mid-Balkans. The Fortress was elevated on the site of earlier Byzantine fortifications . Its construction lasted from 1719 to 1723 with the help of local inhabitants and Constantinople stone-cutters.The walls are 2,100 m long, 8 m high and 3 m thick on the average. Despite the walls and the towers, inside the fortress there are many well- preserved sights: aresanal, hamam, the mosque of Bali- bey, turkish armoury and prison etc.

  • Trip to Djavolja Varos, which means “Devil’s Town”, is a peculiar rock formation, located in south Serbia on the Radan Mountain, features 202 earth pyramids, each between 2-15 meters high and 4-6 meters wide. These formations were created by strong erosion of the soil that was scene of intense volcanic activity millions of years ago. It is declared it a major natural monument subject to category one protection.
Đavolja Varoš was a nominee in the New Seven Wonders of Nature campaign.
